NOAA Coastal Services Center
As part of the federal government's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Coastal Services Center works with private and public sector partners to address coastal issues.
Funding for the Gulf of Mexico Alliance Nutrient Reduction and Education teams supported the development of this project.
Gulf of Mexico Program
The EPA Gulf of Mexico Program collaborated on the Smart Yard Healthy Gulf project because of the important role the public can play in preventing fertilizer runoff into the Gulf.
By fertilizing only when needed and at the recommended time, residents of the Gulf can help do their part in decreasing the size of the low oxygen "dead zone" that occurs each summer in the Gulf.
